Otherwise known as petit mal, absence seizure often appears like a brief lapse in conscious activity. During an episode, the person experiencing the seizure seems like staring into space for a few seconds.
Frequency
Absence seizure occurs most commonly among children although teenage and adult patients may also exhibit symptoms associated with this condition. In general, however, this seizure is age-related. Children are most susceptible to electrical discharges in the brain because there are more synapses or gaps between nerve cells in developing brains. This explains the fact that children tend to outgrow this condition once they reach the stage when their brains become fully developed.
Onset usually begins early, during the prenatal, perinatal or postnatal stages, and is predominantly experienced by children age 4 to 8 years old, with symptoms peaking at ages 6 to 7. Symptoms, however, rarely appear before age 1.
In the United States, absence seizure occurs in around 2 in every 100,000 people.
Signs and Symptoms
Absence seizure is relatively shorter than advance cases of seizures like tonic-clonic seizure. This only lasts for a few seconds and is not accompanied with violent convulsions typically associated with epileptic seizures, although twitching movements of the muscles of the eyes are quite common.
Common symptoms of absence seizure include staring into space without any unusual movements which may appear like the patient is presently 'disconnected', smacking of the lips, chewing motions, fluttering of the eyelids, small hand movements.
Some attacks of absence seizures can be so brief, they are barely noticeable. These types, which are often perceived as daydreaming, can happen several times in a day to up to a hundred times, depending on the severity of the condition. There are also attacks that can last for up to several seconds.
The hallmark of an absence seizure is the loss of consciousness. As such, patients normally do not have any memory of the seizure and are most likely to go back where they have left off prior to the attack of seizure. A few of them may feel confused after recovering but most exhibit no unusual behavior.
Absence seizure is comparably less dangerous and violent than more severe cases of seizure. However, this still poses risks to their safety. A more significant effect of the condition to the patient is a significant decline in performance. Children with this condition often perform poorly at school because of their lapses in concentration.
Causes
Most absence seizures are idiopathic, meaning there is no identifiable cause to their occurrence. It is clear in clinical studies, though, that children with this condition have family history of epilepsy. The majority of these children have genetic predisposition to develop abnormalities in the electrical activities of the brain.
Hyperventilation is one of the few known triggers of absence seizure. Altered levels of neurotransmitters, a chemical in the brain that facilitates communication between neurons, are also known to kick in the symptoms of this condition.
Complications
Although it is possible to outgrow absence seizure, there are patients who continue to exhibit symptoms well into adulthood. In not a few cases, the symptoms develop into tonic-clinic seizures and other more severe types of seizure.

Are these people making a mistake, or are they making the right decision?
We can't tell, for sure, if people are making a mistake by choosing a high paying one-time commission affiliate program. But we can definitely say that they are making a large mistake if they ignore residual affiliate programs. Residual affiliate programs would indeed pay at a lower rate, but merchants offering such kind of programs would generally pay you regular and ongoing commissions for a single affiliate initiated sale! That means, for the same effort you made in promoting a particular affiliate program, you get paid only once in a one-time commission program, and a regular and ongoing commission for a residual program!
So, are the benefits of promoting residual affiliate programs clearer to you now? Or are they still vague? If they are still vague, then let's make them a bit clearer with this example.
Suppose there are two online merchants both offering web hosting services on their sites. The first merchant offers a one-time commission type of affiliate program that pays $80 for every single affiliate initiated sale. The second merchant also offers an affiliate program, but this time a residual affiliate program that pays only $10 for every single affiliate initiated sale. As an affiliate, we may get attracted at once at what the first merchant is offering, as $80 is definitely a lot larger than $10. But by thinking things over before actually getting into them, one may be able to see that the second merchant is offering us more opportunity to earn a larger amount of money.
Supposed you have directed traffic to the merchant and it converted into a sale, you'll get paid once by the first merchant for the sale you have initiated. But with the second merchant, you'll get paid monthly for as long as the customer you have referred to the merchant continues to avail of the web hosting service. That means that for the same effort of getting one customer to avail of the merchant's service, you get paid monthly in residual affiliate programs while you only get paid once in a one-time commission type of affiliate programs.
So, are residual affiliate programs worth promoting? Definitely yes, because you virtually get more money from these types of affiliate programs in the long run! And would residual affiliate programs work best for you? Probably not, probably yes. It is not really for me to tell. But with the benefits that residual affiliate marketing can provide, it would really be unwise to ignore such programs.

Long tail keywords convert better and there are a lot of them
Several studies found out that long tail keywords have a much higher conversion rate than single word keywords. Long tail keywords are very specific keywords that consists of 4 or more words.
According to a recent Hitwise study, more than 18% of searches contain five or more keywords. In addition, Google says that "20% of the queries Google receives each day are ones [they] haven't seen in at least 90 days, if at all."
The wrong long tail keywords will just cost you money
The facts above indicate that it might be a good idea to use broad match for all of your keywords. It's just not possible to include all possible keywords manually in your campaigns. Google recommend to use broad match with your keywords:
"Broad match is a great way to capitalize on those unexpected, but relevant queries. When you include a keyword as a broad match, your corresponding ad is not only eligible to appear alongside queries with that exact spelling, but it can also capture keyword expansions that include synonyms, singular/plural forms, relevant variants of your keywords, and phrases containing your keywords."
Unfortunately, it's not that easy. If you use broad match for all of your keywords then your ads will be shown for a lot of unrelated searches and you'll pay a lot of money without getting something in return.
For example, the word "tiger" would be used for searches regarding Tiger Woods, the Siberian tiger, tiger sharks, the town Tiger in Georgia, etc.
For that reason, it is important to exclude the long tail keywords that are not related to your website.
Negative keywords will increase your conversion rate
You can enter so-called negative keywords in your Google AdWords campaigns. If a long tail keyword contains one of your negative keywords, your AdWords ads won't be displayed.
For example, if you enter "-free" as a negative keyword, your AdWords ad is not displayed if someone searches for free things. Negative keywords are an excellent tool for excluding Internet users looking for free items only.
You can also use negative keywords to display an ad for specific target groups. An insurance broker might want to exclude people who are searching for books about insurance. He could enter "book" and "books" as negative keywords.
If one of your keywords has multiple meanings ("tiger" would trigger "tiger woods" and "siberian tiger", "tiger shark", "tiger, georgia") then you should add negative keywords that remove the unrelated searches.
Broad match can help you to get more customers but you have to be very careful with that option. If you use broad match with your keywords, don't forget to use negative keywords so that you don't pay for unwanted traffic.

"It is more than a popularity contest", said Google's Amit Singhal. "One user following another in social media is analogous to one page linking to another on the Web. Both are a form of recommendation.
As high-quality pages link to another page on the Web, the quality of the linked-to page goes up. Likewise, in social media, as established users follow another user, the quality of the followed user goes up as well."
There are additional filters and algorithms
The follower reputation rank is only one of Google's methods to rank tweets:
1. Hashtags
Twitter users often use "hashtags" in their comments. Hashtags are symbols that start with a # followed by a popular topic, for example #earthquake.
If such a hashtag is included in a tweet, the tweet will show up in the real-time results when other Twitter users click the hashtag's topic word elsewhere on the site.
2. Spam
While hashtags can be useful to maximize the exposure of a tweet, they are also often abused for spamming. The wrong hashtags can serve as a red flag that triggers Google's spam filters.
Amit Singhal didn't go into the details but he said that Google modeled the hashtagging behavior in ways that tend to reduce the exposure of low-quality tweets.

There can be thousands of tweets that contain a very popular word such as "Obama". To find the relevant tweets, Google looks for "signals in the noise". Such a signal can be an increasing number of tweets that mention other words near mentions of "Obama", for example "Cambridge police".
